Jon Peterson, President

Jon Peterson is the President and founder of Peterson Economics. During the past 17 years, he has completed more than 500 major consulting assignments in North America, Hawaii, Australia, the Caribbean, and Latin America. These have included a wide variety of complex resort, club community, fractional, golf, real estate, lodging, retail and other assignments. Mr. Peterson has worked on projects in more than 40 states in the U.S., as well as more than ten foreign countries.

Prior to forming Peterson Economics, Mr. Peterson was a Principal at Economics Research Associates. Since forming Peterson Economics, Mr. Peterson has completed more than 275 major consulting assignments, including detailed market and financial analyses for more than 200 of the largest and most complex new resorts, private club communities, and other master-planned communities proposed in North America.

For six years, Mr. Peterson served as the primary real estate economist advising the developers of Suncadia, one of the largest and most complex destination resort communities being developed anywhere in North America. This project is now under construction, with over 1,000 second-home properties sold since 2004.

Peterson Economics also served as the primary economic advisor to Morgan Stanley and Dowling Company when they elected to purchase Makena Resort on Maui for $575 million. Peterson Economics prepared a detailed market analysis and formulated detailed program recommendations for this community going forward.

Mr. Peterson has also played a central role in analysis and planning for approximately 200 other large-scale resort-style communities proposed in other locations in Hawaii, Mexico, the Pacific Northwest, California, the Rockies, the Northeast, the Mid-Atlantic, the South, and elsewhere. Many of these communities are now underway, and most have enjoyed sales performance to date closely in line with Peterson Economics’ original projections.

Mr. Peterson now regularly serves as a development advisor to Morgan Stanley, Olympus Real Estate, Lowe Enterprises, Jeld-Wen Communities, and many other prominent development firms.

Mr. Peterson graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Dartmouth College, with a B.A. in geography modified with environmental studies. Mr. Peterson then earned an M.S. in economic geography from the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to spending nine years at Economics Research Associates, Mr. Peterson served as a regional manager for the U.S. Census Bureau on Maui during the 1990 Census, and taught at Penn State University and Seabury Hall on Maui.
